What should a New Zealand plumbing quote include?
Itemise fixtures, fittings and cylinder work with materials and labour on separate lines, show 15% GST separately, and state your NZBN, your IRD GST number and your PGDB registration number so the client can see you are licensed before they accept. Add a validity period, because copper and cylinder prices move, and be explicit about the things that blow out a fixed price: what happens if the pipework behind the wall turns out to be galvanised, who pays for making good linings and tiles, and whether the council inspection and any consent fee are included or excluded.
Do I need to be PGDB registered to quote plumbing work in New Zealand?
Sanitary plumbing, gasfitting and drainlaying are restricted work under the Plumbers, Gasfitters and Drainlayers Act 2006, so the work must be done or supervised by someone registered with the PGDB who holds a current annual practising licence. There are narrow exemptions for minor maintenance work, but a hot water cylinder swap is not one of them. Insta Quotes puts your PGDB registration and NZBN on every quote and invoice, and lets you price the certification as its own line rather than absorbing it.
Does the AI know New Zealand plumbing pricing?
Yes. Quotes are priced in NZD against current New Zealand rates — mains-pressure and low-pressure cylinders, califonts and continuous-flow gas units, copper and PEX runs, tempering and backflow valves, fixtures and drainlaying — using the sort of supply you buy through Mico, Plumbing World or Reece New Zealand, with 15% GST applied rather than Australia's 10%.
Does a hot water cylinder replacement need seismic restraint or building consent in New Zealand?
Seismic restraint, yes — every cylinder has to be restrained so it stays put in an earthquake, and that is a real line item, not an afterthought. Consent is the part worth checking before you quote: under Schedule 1 of the Building Act 2004, replacing or repositioning a cylinder is exempt as long as every heat source on the replacement is a controlled one. What voids the exemption is an uncontrolled heat source — a wetback on a solid-fuel burner, or a solar thermosiphon — which is exactly what you find in older housing stock. Check the heat source before you price it, put the restraint, the tempering valve and any consent and inspection on their own lines, and state which exemption you have assumed — that assumption is the one clients dispute later.
